Kilo QR

Free URL QR code generator

Turn any web link into a QR code that prints sharp at credit-card size and at A2 poster size. The Kilo URL designer renders directly in your browser - your link never leaves the page until you download a free PNG or SVG. Animated GIF and MP4 exports are included on every paid Kilo QR plan, for QRs that need to move on screens.

Why it works: most "free" generators silently drop your QR onto their domain so they can count scans, swap the destination - or expire the code when the trial ends. Ours encodes the URL you typed, end of story. No proxy, no ads, no surprise watermark, no expiry date - the QR you download points straight at your link, forever.

Pair it with our scan-safety score to catch the things that look pretty in software but scan poorly in the wild - low contrast, fancy modules over a busy photo, a logo that nibbles the data area. Each warning links to a one-click fix.

  • Free PNG and SVG downloads - no watermark, no scan caps, no account required.
  • Animated GIF and MP4 exports on every paid plan - for kiosks, social posts and digital signage.
  • Live scan-safety score with one-click fixes for low contrast or oversized logos.
  • Custom shapes, gradients, frames, photo-as-QR mode and a logo slot.
  • No scan tracking, no redirect through our domain - your URL is the URL the QR encodes.

URL QR - frequently asked questions

  • Is this URL QR generator really free?
Yes - unlimited static QRs, no watermark, no scan caps, no account required, and the QR never expires. We make money on the dynamic-link product (analytics, A/B routing, edit-after-print), which is opt-in.
  • Will the QR break if I change my website's URL?
A static QR encodes the URL itself, so changing the destination means generating a new QR. If you need to repoint without reprinting, our dynamic links let you edit the destination after the QR is printed.
  • How big should the QR be on a flyer or business card?
Rule of thumb: scan distance ÷ 10 = minimum QR side length. A poster scanned from two metres away wants a 20 cm QR. Long URLs need more modules and therefore a larger physical size - the designer flags this with a density warning.
  • Why does my QR not scan when I add a logo?
Logos eat into the error-correction budget. The designer auto-bumps ECC to high (H) when you add one, but if the logo is over 22% of the QR width, scan rate drops. Keep logos under 18% for safety.
  • Can I use a custom domain or short link?
Yes - the URL field accepts any URL, including short links from your own service. For Kilo-hosted short links with analytics, sign up for the dashboard.
  • Does the QR include UTM parameters?
Anything you put in the URL ends up in the QR - UTM params, query strings, fragments. The designer does not strip or alter your URL.
  • Will it work in dark mode posters?
Yes, but invert deliberately: a light QR on a dark background scans on every modern phone, but the contrast ratio still has to clear roughly 4.5:1. The safety panel checks this for you.
